Simple reorganizations go a long way in overall kitchen functionality and user experience.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>&nbsp;Design Wide Walkways &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>Typically, paths throughout a kitchen should\nbe at least 36 inches wide. Roads within the cooking zone should be 42 inches\nwide for a one-cook kitchen and 48 inches wide for a two-cook setup. If your\ncurrent kitchen space has less than this because of islands or chairs, try to\nadjust your surroundings to gain a larger working space in essential areas.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Direct Traffic &#8211; <\/strong>When considering layouts and appliance setup, think about how and where your traffic comes and goes.\u00a0Try to keep the cooktop out of high traffic areas, so children do not catch handles and cause spills when running through. Position the refrigerator accessible to both the passerby and people working in cooking areas.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Stay\nClear of Corners &#8211; <\/strong>Planning for a cabinet\nor drawer&#8217;s clearance and swing will make them more functional and allow for\nmore breathing room. Try to keep appliances away from corners, and make sure\ndoors will not bang into each other if open at the same time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Optimizing\nYour Microwave Height &#8211; <\/strong>Typically,\n15 inches above the countertop is the proper microwave height, although this\nvaries depending on the chef or if you&#8217;re trying to be kid-friendly. On the contrary, when you\nhave clutter on an island, it can make the entire kitchen seem cramped.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Appropriate\nLanding Space &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>You should allow 14\ninches of countertop on each side of a cooktop, microwave, and refrigerator. Having\na landing space near the oven and other kitchen must-haves provides a temporary\nrest stop for items during prep.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Double\nUp &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>A second microwave\noven, a mini-refrigerator, or a refrigerator drawer placed at the edge of a kitchen\nwork center helps to keep snackers out of the cook&#8217;s way.
